In 1882, Robert was back in Halifax and became a junior partner in the firm of Graham, Tupper and Borden. He was involved in cases that brought him before the Supreme Court of Canada and the Judicial Committee of he Privy Council in England. On September 25, 1889, Robert married Laura Bond with whom he had no children.
